This story begins when Al bought his 1931 Plymouth Coupe Street Rod for $50.00 in 1950. Al drove it back and forth to work when he first bought his street rod.

In 1965, Al's oldest, Don, drove it through 1966. That's when the timing gear went out. In 1973, Jeff, one of the twins was driving it off and on. Both Al and Jeff noticed that the car was knocking.

Al thought the trouble was in the engine and sold the motor. It turns out that the problem was in the transmission. Al bought a 4 cylinder 1962 Chevy Nova motor.

After that the car sat from 1973 - 1996. Helen and Al waited 23 years for their car to start the long road to restoration.

Their son, Greg, took the 1931 Plymouth to Sacramento in 1996. In Greg's spare time he would work on restoring the street rod. Greg returned the 1931 Plymouth to Papa Al and Helen in running condition, new paint and more, in 1998.

Al said "It was upholstered just before we brought it home." So, they drove home in their freshly upholstered 1931 Plymouth Coupe Street Rod in 1998 - rumble seat and all. Too exciting!

Al continued doing some tweaking until 2000. Then he felt like his street rod was road ready - ready for travel.

Since then, Al and Helen have spent many hours driving along side one another in their street rod to car show events, parades and much more.

Al and Helen Wood were honored with our Cruisin' North Car Club's Member of the Year 2004 award. It was presented to Al and Helen Wood at the January 2005 General Meeting.
